Deering Estate Trip Explores Ecosystems and Adaptations

Our Fourth and Fifth Grade Middle School Prep students enjoyed a meaningful Science field experience at the Deering Estate, where learning came alive in South Florida’s natural landscape.

As part of their study of physical and behavioral adaptations, students explored how animals — particularly reptiles — survive and thrive in their environments. Through guided exploration and engaging discussions, they observed how camouflage, body structure, temperature regulation, and instinctive behaviors support survival in the wild.

Walking through mangrove habitats and coastal ecosystems allowed students to see these adaptations in action, deepening their understanding through direct observation and hands-on discovery.

This experience beautifully reflects the spirit of our Middle School Prep program, where curiosity is nurtured and academic concepts are strengthened through real-world connections.

We are proud of the enthusiasm, thoughtful questions, and genuine wonder our students brought to the day as they continue to grow as scientists and confident learners.
