Our Middle School Prep parents recently had the opportunity to step into their children’s world during a special evening Open House for our 4th and 5th Grade families. For the evening, parents followed their children’s actual block schedule, moving from classroom to classroom, meeting different teachers, and experiencing the transitions that are part of a typical day in Middle School Prep. Along the way, they gained a closer look at the curriculum, classroom routines, and learning experiences that shape their children’s days. The evening also gave families a deeper understanding of the purpose behind our Middle School Prep Program. Designed as a bridge between the Montessori environment of our Lower School years and the more traditional, departmentalized structure of middle school, the program helps students gradually adjust to a new level of independence. By changing classrooms, working with different teachers, managing a block schedule, and taking greater ownership of their learning, students build the organization, responsibility, and confidence they will need for the next stage of their education. The Open House gave parents the opportunity to experience this transition firsthand and see how Middle School Prep combines the strong foundations of a Montessori education with purposeful preparation for what comes next. When our 5th Grade students leave Alexander to continue their journeys at the middle schools of their choice, they do so already familiar with many of the routines, expectations, and responsibilities of their next chapter.
