Ludlam Road Campus

The Ludlam Road Campus is home to the Lower School (ages 6 to 9) and the Departmentalized Middle School Preparatory Program (ages 9 to 12). This private elementary school near Coral Gables and Pinecrest is set in the Village of Palmetto Bay. The six-acre grounds include a swimming pool, an indoor basketball court, a volleyball court, tennis courts, playgrounds, and athletic fields. Seventeen classrooms fill the Campus, along with a large Media Center/Library and the 8000 sq. ft. Maria Montessori Center, which is used as an air-conditioned gymnasium and performance hall.

Go Green With Us

We hope you’ll share in our joy of our new Ludlam Road Elementary Campus North Building. It is the third LEED school building certified at the Gold level in the Miami-Dade County.

Weaving the power of sustainability into our school day and building with an eye toward our future was the primary goal of our LEED renovation. We hope it enhances the children’s Montessori experience and further sparks their interest and curiosity about the natural world.

What is LEED?

LEED Stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. In 2000, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) created the LEED Green Building Rating System. In school terms, LEED is like a report card for buildings, certifying that a facility has been built and is operating in a way that supports and nurtures the health and well-being of its occupants. Responsible use of energy, resources, and funding are all considered in the rating system, which designates buildings at different levels based on their potential environmental impact.

Why LEED?

The opportunity to create a living, breathing sustainable environment for the children was our primary motivation. LEED practices at our new building include:
  • Improved environmental literacy in our students
  • The conservation of energy and natural resources
  • Improved indoor air quality
  • Improved classroom acoustics
  • Creative use of natural daylight strategies
  • Use of solar panels for reduced consumption of fossil fuel
  • Use of sustainable and recycled materials
  • Incorporation of water-efficient landscaping
  • Improved waste management efforts to benefit the entire Palmetto Bay community
  • Harvesting of rain water and conservation of fresh drinking water
  • Shaded parking with tree canopy and decreased heat emission

Purposeful and Beautiful “Art Fins”

“A village with public art, is a village that thinks and feels.” This is what the Village of Palmetto Bay has to say regarding Art in Public Places, and we could not agree more. When designing the new North Building at our Ludlam Road Elementary Campus, there were many factors and options to consider, including how to best protect our classrooms and offices from the hot Miami sun. Award-winning artist, architect, and engineer, Elena Manferdini partnered with our building’s award-winning architect, Jenifer Briley to design shutter-like aluminum fins that are elegant, unique, and purposeful. These beautiful art panels cast their long and changing shadows along the front of the building, adding depth and dimension to the Palmetto Bay landscape. The organic and playful hibiscus designs allow visitors and students alike to enjoy a piece of art in a most unexpected fashion.
