Parenting During a Collective Trauma
Weeks go by and the heaviness ceases to be lifted.  These are certainly unprecedented times we are living.  Life as we once knew it came to an abrupt PAUSE and shifted into a new normal with social distancing, stay-at-home mandates, school closures, and remote learning.  So many changes happened overnight and yet we, as parents, are expected to adjust to them with confidence and ease as we model resilience and patience with our children.  But let’s be honest, parenting during a pandemic is not easy!  We are all living through a collective trauma.  This is a worldwide crisis.  Parents have found themselves trying to balance parenting, working from home, homeschooling, cooking, cleaning, and more.  There is no parent handbook and if there were, it is highly unlikely there would be a chapter dedicated to Parenting During a Pandemic. Yet here we are, vulnerable, exhausted, and scared.  We are trying our best, and that is enough.  There is comfort in knowing that we are all in this together (and by “all,” I literally mean everyone in the world - except maybe Antarcticans)!
