Every year, our Fifth Graders work diligently on free-verse poems to submit to the Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition. The themes are to be either spiritual, emotional, or imaginative, and are an exercise in creating images with figurative language. Students are asked to choose a topic that evokes strong feelings in them, and the result is powerful, often very moving poetry. We're proud to share our students' prize-winning poems, all of which received a First or Second Place Ribbon, including a Judges' Award, and Best in Show for our age category for Victoria Cordero's piece, titled "My Love of Writing."
