Extracurricular Activities
Extracurricular Activities and special performances throughout the year provide our children with the opportunity to develop the abilities of public speaking, to demonstrate special talents, to fulfill themselves outside the academic routine, and to enhance their enjoyment of the school experience. Children find Alexander Montessori School a happy, friendly, and challenging place.
Some of these activities are conducted during school hours and others are conducted after school. Please contact your Campus Secretary for more information and a Registration Form.
Past Extracurricular Activities have included:
PIANO LESSONS
(Elementary; After school available)
Private piano lessons are designed to build and enhance student’s sight-reading skills, coordination, and expression. Students develop competencies that will last a lifetime.
STRING PROGRAM
(Preschool and Elementary)
Stringed instruments are taught traditionally or with Suzuki lessons in violin and cello. Students participate in two recitals per year. Private lessons are taught on campus for children ages 4 through 12. It has long been accepted that classical music lessons increase brain activity. Students also develop posture, poise, auditory memory, fine motor skills, and music appreciation.
DANCE CLASSES
(Preschool; After school)
Dance is known to increase flexibility and coordination, improve muscle tone, and enhance the sense of rhythm. Our Dance Program is taught in a playful but structured way. Its main goals are to help children develop self-awareness and encourage their expressive potential through public performance.
SWIMMING PROGRAM
(Preschool and Elementary; After school)
Goals for our Preschool Program include basic water skills and helping swimmers feel comfortable in the water. Goals for the Elementary Program include performing fundamental aquatic skills, developing, improving, and refining the strokes (front and back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly), following proper safety procedures, and performing diving fundamentals.
BALLET/GYMNASTICS
(Preschool; During school hours)
Ballet is emotional and physical therapy which helps children develop poise, discipline, and strength. It improves coordination, concentration, and communication. Both boys and girls benefit from this enrichment program. Gymnastics teaches children how their bodies move and is a positive direction for their energies. Your child will learn while having fun.
PRESCHOOL SOCCER PROGRAM
(Preschool; After school)
We believe that the Alexander Montessori School Sports Program can help people to grow personally, clarify values, improve relationships, appreciate diversity, develop leadership skills, and have fun. It is based on the concept that fair play is the very essence of competition. Everybody should have an equal opportunity to compete and a fair chance to win.
ELEMENTARY SPORTS PROGRAM
(Elementary; After school)
Basketball, soccer, and flag football are offered throughout the year. You can mix and match sports or choose one sport to rapidly develop your skills. Students are also allowed to play multiple sports each season.
TAE KWON DO
(Preschool and Elementary; After school)
Students discipline themselves to follow directions, practice good manners and courtesies, develop physical coordination, and take pride in their accomplishments.
TENNIS
(Preschool and Elementary; After school available)
Playing tennis often will enhance hand-eye coordination in earlier stages of development and accelerate progress in higher levels. Players will have visual awareness of their strokes and footwork. All groups will be fun-oriented and at the higher levels, we will emphasize hard work. See www.jvtennis.net for more details.
CERAMICS
(Preschool and Elementary; After school)
This program is designed to be a structured personal exploration of the form, space, texture, and experience of clay. Working with clay fosters the communication among hands, clay, and the imagination. The emphasis is on the exploration of the fundamental techniques of hand building. Projects are designed to be creative and fun.
